Sport and Remedial Massage

Sport and remedial massage is one of the most effective ways of treating muscle injuries and pain. As well as treating soft tissue injuries, massage can help to prevent injuries from occurring. Sport and remedial massage is not only a huge benefit to the athlete but to anyone that is suffering from pain and discomfort. Everyday lifestyles can often take their toll on the body, from sitting at the desk from 9-5, to stress and tension from work and outside influences to general poor posture. Sport and remedial massage can benefit anyone offering relief from pain and tension, relaxation and help the body naturally recover and repair.

Muscle Energy Techniques

Muscle Energy Techniques are used to help lengthen tight, shortened muscles which in turn will help them become stronger and increase and improve the range of movement. The technique involves using a resisted gentle contraction of chronically tight muscles in order to influence the nervous system thus encouraging them to relax and increase in length. MET’s can also be used to help reduce and relieve muscle spasms and help with the range of movement at joints and in the limbs. MET’s also help improve function through the stimulation of neural control of the muscle.

Soft Tissue Release

Soft tissue release assists with the stretching of muscle fibres, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The technique involves manipulating the soft tissues through an application of pressure in conjunction with the movement of the associated joint, repeatedly stretching small areas of soft tissue. This is a very specific technique which can be a quick and effective way of releasing local areas of soft tissue tension, breaking down scar tissue and working on adhesions.

Postural Assessment

A lot of aches and pain issues come from muscular imbalances in the body. This often means that the muscles aren’t being used in an effective manner and to the best of their ability. Often the root cause of the problem isn’t where the pain is being felt. During a postural assessment, I will look at your entire posture to identify any contributing factors allowing a treatment plan to be formed to not only reduce your pain but deal with the site of the problem on a more permanent basis.

Injury Assessment

Clinical tests are used to assess both joints and muscles which help identify issues such as tight muscles, weakened muscles or damaged soft tissue or joint structures. The outcome of the assessment can help structure a treatment plan specific to the clients needs. Sometimes this may mean referral to another healthcare practitioner for further examination depending on the condition.

Rehab and Exercise Plans

Treatment doesn’t just end when you leave the clinic! I will work with you to give you a plan that you can take away with you to help aid your recovery. Whether that be exercises to strengthen weakened muscles, increase range of movement of joints or further help relieve tight muscles I can provide advice on exercises to help you get back to your best!

Neuromuscular Techniques – Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are very tender painful spots found in muscles that often cause referred pain elsewhere in the body when pressure is applied to them. Trigger points can be caused by trauma, strains, overuse of muscles, persistent muscle contractions and can cause chronic pain. Treating trigger points can help reduce such issues as tension headaches and migraines. They help to activate the natural healing process in the client and help to restore their physical and emotional well-being.
